Fundamental Duties

Introduction
Fundamental Duties were added to the Constitution by the 42nd Amendment Act, 1976 under Article 51A. They outline the responsibilities of citizens to promote harmony and uphold the sovereignty of India.
List of Fundamental Duties
- To abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals and institutions.
- To cherish and follow the noble ideals of the freedom struggle.
- To uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India.
- To defend the country and render national service when called upon.
- To promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood among all people.
- To preserve the rich heritage of the country's composite culture.
- To protect the environment and have compassion for living creatures.
- To develop scientific temper, humanism, and the spirit of inquiry and reform.
- To safeguard public property and abjure violence.
- To strive towards excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity.
- To provide opportunities for education to one’s child or ward between age six and fourteen.
Significance
Fundamental Duties serve as a moral compass for citizens, encouraging active participation in nation-building and respect for democratic principles.
