Order and Ranking

Order and Ranking questions involve finding the position of an individual or item in a sequence based on given conditions. These questions test your logical thinking and analytical skills.

What is Order and Ranking?

Order and Ranking problems typically deal with arranging people or things in ascending or descending order based on ranks, positions, or heights. The goal is to determine a particular rank or position or to find who stands where in the sequence.

Common Patterns Used:

  • Ranking from the start (left to right) or end (right to left)
  • Finding middle positions
  • Converting rank from one end to another
  • Using difference in ranks to find positions
  • Comparing ranks of different individuals

Example:

Q: There are 10 students in a class. Rahul is 4th from the front. What is his position from the back?
Ans: 7th from the back (Position from back = Total students - Position from front + 1)
