Mirror and Water Image
Concept & Tricks
- Mirror Image: When an object is placed in front of a mirror, the image formed is reversed laterally (left becomes right and right becomes left).
- Water Image: When an object is placed near a water surface, the image formed is vertically inverted (top becomes bottom).
- Alphabets and digits are commonly asked in SSC, Railway, and State exams. Some characters remain same or change slightly.
Mirror Image Rules
- Left ↔ Right change in position
- Common mirror direction is vertical (along Y-axis).
- For numbers: 2 ↔ 5, 6 ↔ 9, others may look flipped
Example: Mirror image of "CAT" is "Ɉ∀Ɔ"
Water Image Rules
- Top ↔ Bottom gets inverted
- Water image is formed along the horizontal axis (X-axis)
- Characters like A, M, W remain same in water image
Example: Water image of "123" appears as vertically inverted "Ɛ Ↄ Ↄ"
